F405 flight controllers run the STM32F405 processor — the long-serving F4 chip that still powers a large share of FPV quads and most budget fixed-wing controllers. This page collects every F405 board in our Flight Controllers range, from 20×20 mini boards for 3–5 inch quads to wing controllers with extra servo outputs and ArduPilot/INAV support. An F405 has enough headroom for Betaflight with a digital video system, but fewer UARTs and less processing margin than an F722 or H743; pick it where the budget matters more than the feature list.
How to choose an F405 board
- Firmware: all F405 boards run Betaflight; wing-oriented boards (F405 Wing, BotWing F405) also carry INAV and ArduPilot targets with servo rails and a current sensor built in.
- UARTs: typically 4–6 hardware serial ports — receiver, GPS, VTX control and a digital air unit each want one, so count before buying.
- Mount: 20×20mm for mini boards, 30.5×30.5mm for standard stacks and wing boards.
- Gyro: MPU6000, ICM42688P or BMI270 — all fine for Betaflight; ICM42688P supports higher loop rates.
- Flash vs SD card: blackbox logging on flash is limited to a few minutes; boards with an SD slot log whole flights.
What we stock
Fixed-wing and ArduPilot builds: the HAKRC F405 Wing, the Matek F405-HDTE and the Botlab Dynamics BotWing F405 with its solderless connectors, designed and made in India. Quads: the iFlight BLITZ Mini F4, the Skystars F405HD Mini V2 for digital video, and the Elarion F405 FC/ESC stack (30×30, up to 8S).
Compatibility
F405 boards accept 2–6S input directly on most quad boards and 3–8S on wing controllers with a built-in BEC; check the listing before wiring a high-cell pack. They support every current receiver protocol (ELRS/CRSF, SBUS, IBUS) and both analog OSD and DJI/Walksnail/HDZero over UART. Betaflight 4.4+ still ships F405 targets, but some features (e.g. very high PID loop rates, several simultaneous filters) are trimmed on F4.
Frequently asked questions
- Is an F405 still good enough for Betaflight in 2026?
- Yes for most builds. F405 runs Betaflight 4.4/4.5 at 4kHz PID loops with a digital video system. You give up spare UARTs and some CPU headroom compared with F722 and H743.
- F405 or F722 — what's the difference?
- F722 has a faster core (216 vs 168MHz), more UARTs and inverted-signal support on every UART. If your build needs GPS, a digital air unit, a receiver and VTX control at once, F722 is the safer choice.
- Can an F405 fly a fixed wing?
- Yes — wing-specific F405 boards (F405 Wing, BotWing F405) add servo outputs, a current sensor and INAV/ArduPilot targets, and are the usual choice for planes and VTOL conversions on a budget.
