Product details

SparkFun's GPS-21834 breakout puts the u-blox SAM-M10Q GNSS module, antenna built in, on a compact Qwiic board. It suits microcontroller-based robots, rovers, trackers and experimental drone projects that read position over I2C or UART.

Key features

  • Four constellations at once: GPS, Galileo, GLONASS and BeiDou, plus QZSS, for about 1.5 m horizontal accuracy.
  • Fast fixes: 23 s cold start and 1 s hot start, with an onboard 3 V backup battery holding hot-start data for about 4 hours.
  • Update rate: up to 18 Hz on a single constellation, 5 Hz with all four.
  • Two Qwiic connectors: solder-free I2C daisy-chaining, plus 0.1" pins for UART, PPS time pulse, interrupt, safe-boot and reset.
  • Low power: about 10 mA while tracking and 5 mA in power-save mode.

Specifications

  • Module: u-blox SAM-M10Q (M10), built-in chip antenna
  • Signals: GPS L1 C/A, Galileo E1B/C, GLONASS L1OF, BeiDou B1C, QZSS L1 C/A and L1S
  • Horizontal accuracy: 1.5 m
  • Velocity accuracy: 0.05 m/s
  • Heading accuracy: 0.3°
  • Time pulse accuracy: 30 ns RMS
  • Max update rate: 18 Hz single GNSS, 5 Hz four GNSS
  • Time to fix: 23 s cold, 1 s hot
  • Operating limits: 80,000 m altitude, 500 m/s
  • Supply: 3.3 V; about 13 mA acquiring, 10 mA tracking
  • Backup battery: 3 V, 1 mAh
  • Interfaces: I2C (2 × Qwiic), UART

The board takes a 3.3 V supply, which any Qwiic host provides; check logic levels before wiring its UART to a 5 V board. There is no compass on it, so a flight controller that needs heading for GPS modes still requires a separate magnetometer.
