Made in India Drone Brands: Who Builds What, From IZI to Zerodrag

Why “made in India” matters for drone parts

Until recently almost every part inside an Indian-built drone was imported. That changed for three reasons. The 2022 import ban on finished drones (with exceptions for R&D, defence and security) pushed assembly into India; the drone PLI scheme rewards indigenous value addition; and government, police and defence tenders now score or require Indian-made electronics. The result is a set of Indian companies building flight controllers, ESCs, motors, receivers, batteries — and complete drones — that you can buy off the shelf. A part designed and made here also means a warranty you can actually claim, firmware support in your time zone, and no customs delay for a spare.

Complete drones

IZI (Gurugram) — camera drones

IZI is the Indian consumer camera-drone brand: the alternative to a DJI Mini for travel and content creators. The Mini X Nano is a sub-249 g 4K drone with a 20 MP sensor, 3-axis gimbal, GPS return-to-home and 31 minutes per battery; the Brephos Mini keeps the sub-249 g weight but moves to a 1/1.3″ 48 MP sensor, a 20 km IZI R7 link and 34 minutes per battery; the full-size Brephos carries a 1″ 48 MP sensor with 4K60 video, obstacle avoidance and a 24 km link. Fly More combos add batteries and a case. Under 250 g the drone is nano class — no registration or pilot certificate for recreational flying (see the camera drone buying guide).

Axldrone (Kochi) — training and industrial airframes

Axldrone builds surveillance and mapping drones for institutional buyers and sells the AXL30 carbon-fibre quadcopter airframe as a DIY kit — a popular first build for engineering colleges and STEM labs.

Flight controllers, ESCs and stacks

Zerodrag (Bengaluru)

Zerodrag designs Betaflight, INAV and ArduPilot flight controllers, AM32 ESCs, ELRS receivers and antennas in India, with a 12-month warranty. The STRIX H7 and the Boost 55 A ESC make a 30×30 stack for 5–7″ builds; the Nova F4 and Warp F7 cover budget and mid-range. Zerodrag also makes the QPT motors below.

Botlab Dynamics (New Delhi, IIT Delhi)

Best known for the record-setting drone light shows, Botlab designed its own electronics to fly them — and sells them: the BotStack F405 + 55 A AM32 stack, BotDrive ESCs, the BotLink ELRS receiver and the BotNavigator GNSS module.

Darkmatter (Bally, West Bengal)

Darkmatter’s Stack 450 (Brahma F4 + Vishnu 50 A ESC) and Stack 750 (Brahma F7) were among the first Indian FPV stacks and run Betaflight, INAV or ArduPilot.

VECROS (New Delhi) and ZUPPA (Chennai) — autopilots

VECROS builds autonomous indoor-inspection drones and sells the JETCORE flight control board (PX4 / ArduPilot, with an NVIDIA Jetson carrier for onboard AI). ZUPPA, a Chennai navigation-electronics company, makes the EZFly agriculture autopilot and the Elevate autopilot for survey and logistics airframes — both built on Indian PCBs.

Motors and propulsion

Vector Technics (Bengaluru)

Vector Technics makes large multirotor motors and folding propellers for agriculture, logistics and defence airframes — the 4006, 6015 PRO, 6020 and 8008 / 8015 series with matched 30″ props — designed and wound in India.

Quanteon Powertrain (QPT) and Reflex Drive

QPT is Zerodrag’s motor line: FPV sizes such as the 2207 1800KV and 2807, through 3115 and 4008 for 7–10″ long-range builds. Reflex Drive (IIT Kanpur) builds heavy-lift propulsion — the RD MI X8 8015 motors and high-voltage ESCs for 15–20 kg-thrust agri and logistics arms.

Batteries

Revogreen (Li-ion NMC and LFP packs with BMS for drones, defence and robotics) supplies 3S–6S packs such as the 6S 10,000 mAh. Our own Molicel Li-ion packs — P28A, P42A and P45B cells, spot-welded and balance-tapped in Gurugram, 1S to 12S — are assembled to order for long-range and survey builds. VimanaFPV (Kerala) adds ELRS antennas, straps and 21700 cells for FPV.

Every product carries a Made in India attribute in its spec table; it is a filter on every category page and the basis of the Made in India collection. We buy through the brands’ Indian distributors, so warranty claims go back to the maker. If you need a part for a tender with an indigenous-content clause, the spec table on each product page states the brand and origin.
