Product details

The RFDesign RFD900x is a compact 900MHz telemetry radio for long-range data links between an aircraft and its ground station, suited to survey, mapping and long-range autopilot builds. Every unit is the same transceiver, so either radio can sit on the aircraft or at the ground end; a link needs two.

Key features

  • 902-928 MHz ISM band: the 900MHz band penetrates obstacles well and sees less interference than crowded 2.4GHz.
  • Adjustable output up to 1 W: 0 to 30 dBm in 1 dB steps, so power can be turned down for short-range work.
  • 40 km+ outdoor range: depending on antennas and data rate, with air data rates up to 750 kbps.
  • Dual antenna ports: supports antenna diversity and differential antenna configurations.
  • USB and UART on board: a built-in USB-serial chip switches automatically between USB and UART, with USB taking priority.
  • Thermal management: monitors module temperature and cuts the duty cycle automatically to avoid overheating.

Specifications

  • Frequency: 902-928 MHz
  • Transmit power: 0-30 dBm (up to 1 W), 1 dB steps
  • Air data rate: up to 750 kbps
  • Range: 40 km or more, antenna and data-rate dependent
  • Interfaces: USB and UART, auto-switching
  • Antenna ports: 2, diversity supported
  • Supply voltage: 5 V rated, 4 V minimum
  • Operating temperature: -40 to +85 °C

Set up the local radio with AT commands and the remote radio over the air with RT commands, so the unit on the aircraft never needs a cable. Check local spectrum rules for 902-928 MHz before flying.
