Betaflight Flight Controllers
Betaflight is the open-source firmware that flies most FPV freestyle and racing quads, and these are the boards in our Flight Controllers range that run it. Two choices narrow the field quickly: mounting size, 20x20 for smaller builds or 30.5x30.5 for 5-inch and larger, and processor class, from F4 through F7 to H7, which sets how many UARTs you get and how much headroom there is. Check the gyro and input voltage rating before you buy.
How to choose a Betaflight flight controller
- Processor: F405 boards cover most freestyle builds; F7 boards (F722, F745) add UARTs; H743 boards have the most headroom and often run ArduPilot and INAV as well. Artery AT32F435 boards, such as the iFlight BLITZ ATF435, are a newer budget-friendly alternative.
- Gyro: ICM42688P and BMI270 are today's mainstream gyros, and MPU6000 remains a proven choice.
- Mounting: 20x20 or 30.5x30.5, matched to your frame and ESC.
- UARTs: count your serial devices. A receiver, a digital air unit, GPS and ESC telemetry each need one, and boards here offer 5 to 8.
- Input voltage: most accept 2–6S directly, and several H7 boards go up to 8S.

Some boards integrate extra hardware: the iFlight Borg 5S RX carries an onboard ELRS receiver, and the T-Motor Mini F7 and BETAFPV Cube include a video transmitter. Indian-made boards come from Zerodrag (Nova F4, STRIX H7, Warp F7) and Botlab Dynamics (BotWing F405).
Compatibility
Match the mounting pattern to your frame and 4-in-1 ESC: 30.5x30.5 boards pair with 30.5x30.5 ESCs and 20x20 with 20x20, or buy a matched stack. An ELRS or Crossfire receiver connects to a spare UART using the CRSF protocol, and a DJI, Walksnail or HDZero air unit uses another UART with MSP DisplayPort for its on-screen display.
For analog video, choose a board with an analog OSD chip; boards sold as HD versions may leave it out. Boards rated to 6S suit most 5-inch builds, while 8S-rated H7 boards such as the Matek H743 range and TBS Lucid H7 suit higher-voltage builds.
Frequently asked questions
- Can a Betaflight flight controller run ArduPilot or INAV?
- Many can. H743 boards such as the Matek H743 range, TBS Lucid H7 and iFlight Thunder H7 also run ArduPilot, and plenty of F4 and F7 boards have INAV targets. Check the firmware's supported-board list for your exact model before flashing.
- Which gyro should I choose?
- ICM42688P and BMI270 are both well supported in current Betaflight releases, and MPU6000 is older but still reliable. On a well-designed board the difference in flight is small.
- Is an F4 flight controller enough?
- For most 5-inch freestyle builds, yes. Step up to F7 or H7 if you need more UARTs for GPS, a digital air unit and telemetry at once, or want dual-firmware support.
