4S LiPo batteries are four-cell, 14.8V packs. They power 3-inch and 3.5-inch quads, cinewhoops, lower-voltage 5-inch builds and many larger aircraft. This page lists every 4S pack in our LiPo Batteries range, including high-voltage LiHV packs. When choosing, match capacity and weight to your frame size, from 450–650mAh for small quads to far larger packs for big aircraft, and make sure the connector matches your drone: XT30 on small builds, XT60 or EC5 on larger ones.
How to choose a 4S LiPo
- Capacity by build: 450–680mAh for 3-inch and 3.5-inch quads; around 900mAh for 3-inch cinewhoops such as the iFlight Defender series; 1300–1800mAh for 4S 5-inch builds; and 3000mAh and above for larger multirotors and heavy aircraft.
- LiHV: high-voltage packs charge to 4.35V per cell (17.4V) instead of 4.2V (16.8V) for a little extra punch and flight time. Charge them on your charger's LiHV setting.
- Discharge (C) rating: 75–150C packs suit FPV flying, while low-C packs such as 20C are built for gentle, long flights rather than freestyle.
- Connector: XT30, XT60 or EC5; match your drone's lead, or use a quality adapter.

For small quads there are GAONENG GNB 450, 550 and 650mAh packs, including a 650mAh 120C LiHV pack; the DOGCOM 650mAh 150C; the BetaFPV LAVA 450mAh (two-pack) and LAVA II 680mAh; and the Flywoo Explorer 450mAh LiHV two-pack. The iFlight Defender 900mAh pack suits its cinewhoops. For bigger aircraft there are DOGCOM 3000mAh and 3300mAh 80C packs on XT60, a Hunter 4S HV 3500mAh pack, and the CNHL Racing Series 9500mAh 90C on EC5.
Compatibility
A 4S pack runs 14.8V nominal and 16.8V fully charged, or 17.4V for LiHV. Virtually all 2–6S flight controllers and ESCs cover it, but check anything wired straight to the battery.
Motor KV must suit the voltage. On a 5-inch quad, 4S calls for 2207 motors of around 2400–2750KV, while 3-inch builds on 4S commonly use 1404 to 1505 motors of around 3000–4000KV. Motors wound for 6S will feel sluggish on 4S.
Charge at 1C on a balance charger with a 4S balance port, and store packs at about 3.8V per cell (15.2V) between sessions.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I use a 4S battery on a 6S build?
- It will usually fly, but sluggishly: motors wound for 6S spin much slower on 4S. Adjust the low-voltage warning in your flight controller, or choose motors for the pack you intend to run.
- What is a LiHV battery?
- A high-voltage LiPo that charges to 4.35V per cell instead of 4.2V, giving slightly more punch and flight time. Charge it on a charger's LiHV mode; on the standard LiPo setting it only charges to 4.2V.
- Which 4S capacity suits a 3-inch quad?
- 450–650mAh is typical. Lighter packs keep the quad agile, while larger ones add flight time at the cost of weight.
