Product details

A portable arc fusion splicer for joining optical fibre in the field — for repairing or extending the fibre spools used on fibre-optic FPV drones, as well as FTTx and telecom maintenance. It runs on a rechargeable Li-ion battery and handles single-mode, multi-mode and dispersion-shifted fibre.

Key features

  • Low-loss splices: typical loss of about 0.02 dB on single-mode and 0.01 dB on multi-mode fibre, with return loss above 60 dB.
  • Dual cameras and colour LCD: high magnification for accurate fibre alignment, in automatic or manual mode.
  • Fast cycle: splices in about 5–7 seconds, and the built-in heater shrinks 10–60mm protection sleeves.
  • Battery operation: about 200–250 splice-and-heat cycles per charge.
  • Records and updates: stores thousands of splice results, exported over USB, which also handles firmware updates.
  • Rugged build: shock-, dust- and moisture-resistant, for use from -10°C to +50°C.

Specifications

  • Fibre types: SM (G.652, G.657), MM (G.651), DS (G.653), NZDS (G.655)
  • Cladding diameter: 80–150 µm
  • Cleave length: 5–16mm
  • Splice loss (typical): SM 0.02 dB, MM 0.01 dB, DS/NZDS 0.04 dB
  • Return loss: over 60 dB
  • Splice time: 5–7 s
  • Heating time: 15–26 s
  • Splicing programmes: up to 40
  • Electrode life: 4,000–5,000 arcs
  • Tension test: approx. 2 N
  • Operating temperature: -10°C to +50°C

Most fibre-optic FPV spools use bend-insensitive single-mode fibre (G.657), which this splicer supports. Each joint also needs a precision cleaver, a fibre stripper and a protection sleeve, so keep those on hand for field repairs.
