A multimeter checks continuity and finds shorts before you plug in a battery, and a smoke stopper such as the ViFly ShortSaver 2 sits between battery and drone on the first power-up and cuts power if something is shorted. A battery checker such as the ToolkitRC MC8 reads individual cell voltages; a power meter logs current draw so you can size ESCs and batteries.
