Product details

This set pairs an MS4525DO digital differential-pressure sensor with a pitot tube, giving a Pixhawk-family flight controller an accurate airspeed reading for fixed-wing flight on ArduPilot or PX4. Multirotors do not need it: the autopilot only uses airspeed when it runs fixed-wing (plane) code.

Key features

  • Digital I2C output: free of the noise from long cable runs and the ratiometric offsets that older analog airspeed sensors suffer from.
  • 1 psi measurement range, good for airspeeds up to about 100 m/s (360 km/h).
  • High resolution: 0.84 Pa, with 14-bit pressure data from a 24-bit delta-sigma ADC.
  • Built-in temperature sensor: together with the flight controller's static pressure sensor, the autopilot works out true airspeed from indicated airspeed.
  • Mounting: M3 / 6-32 holes on the sensor board.

Specifications

  • Sensor: Measurement Specialties MS4525DO
  • Pressure range: 1 psi differential
  • Airspeed range: up to approx. 100 m/s
  • Resolution: 0.84 Pa
  • Output: I2C digital, 14-bit
  • Mounting holes: M3 / 6-32
  • Firmware: ArduPilot, PX4

Mount the pitot tube clear of propeller wash, pointing straight into the airflow, and route the silicone tubing without kinks. Check that the cable plug matches your flight controller's I2C port, then enable and calibrate the airspeed sensor in your ground station before relying on it for airspeed-based control.
