As a starting point, ND4–ND8 suits overcast days, ND16 bright sun and ND32 harsh midday light over water, sand or snow. Aim for a shutter speed of about double the frame rate — 1/60 s at 30 fps, 1/120 s at 60 fps — and move to a stronger filter if the camera still cannot get that slow.
